English luxury brand, Aspinal of London has popped up on Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann’s prestigious ground floor! The boutique features a selection of the brand’s most coveted pieces, as well as several Galeries Lafayette exclusives, combining timeless elegance and a touch of whimsy… a nod to the iconic City of Lights. We sat down with Aspinal’s Creative Director, Mariya Dykalo, to get her take on Paris, inspiration, and French-girl chic.
In what ways does Parisian chic inspire you?
Parisian chic is all about confidence, the elegance of how an ensemble fits or how a bag makes you feel carrying it. There is a real timelessness in Parisian style, with pieces that will never go out of style. This is exactly my approach when designing Aspinal of London’s collections. The product itself is of the highest quality Italian leather, designed to last a lifetime. But I also like to add elements of fun to the collection, such as the lettering on the exclusives I have designed for Galeries Lafayette. These special touches make the person carrying the product feel special. And I think this combination of refined elegance and whimsy really embodies Paris as well.
Why did you choose Galeries Lafayette for this exclusive pop-up?
Paris is my favorite city, outside of London so for me it was an easy decision. Whenever I am in Paris, Galeries Lafayette is my first stop with the beautiful architecture and so many luxury brands under one roof! Following the success of Aspinal of London’s pop-up at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussman last year, we were delighted at the opportunity to take a space in the store, and even more so on the prestigious Ground Floor next to Dior!
Today, Galeries Lafayette aspires to embody the energy of a city where traditional elegance meets ground-breaking style… what do Paris and Galeries Lafayette invoke for you?
In two words: elegance and glamour! Paris is different to any other city in the world – merging truly spectacular, historical architecture with a unique vibrant energy. The history of the city and the iconic fashion designers that have called it home – such as Coco Chanel – really interest me, especially since my mother used to make clothes with me when I was a child! I feel Galeries Lafayette embodies all these elements with the historic dome and the mixture of brands inside, from French classics such as Dior and Louis Vuitton to new audacious prêt-à-porter brands.
