Every January, the French celebrate Epiphany with a King’s Cake, or “Galette des Rois”. This traditional frangipane tart encloses a hidden lucky charm, baked into the cake. Whoever finds the charm in their slice is crowned King – or Queen – for the day. This year, our in-house chefs have whipped up a selection of delectable delights fit for a king!

Dalloyau & Gas Bijoux

The recipe: This delicious cake is made from caramelised puff pastry layers, a divine almond and hazelnut cream flavoured with Tonka bean, soft Tahitian vanilla caramel pieces and cubes of pear poached in caramel.

The lucky charm: A jewelery charm (in Gas’ iconic Charlie design) that can be worn on a necklace or bracelet.

The surprise: Find one of 5 lucky charms stamped with “GAGNÉ” (meaning “winner” in French) and win a voucher worth 150€, valid for use in the Gas Bijoux online boutique only.

Available at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, Ground Floor.

Pierre Hermé Paris x Maison d’orfèvrerie et arts de la table

The recipe: The Médélice cake is deliciously seductive : puff pastry with a lemon-flavoured almond cream and a homemade crispy praline. The sharpness of the lemon brings out the flavours of the roasted Piedmont hazelnut, whereas the flaky pastry combined with the crunch of the praline offers a remarkable explosion of taste.

The lucky charm: These Pierre Hermé Paris cakes serve as an unusual jewelry box for a unique surprise. Nestled inside you’ll find a Christofle charm, sporting clean lines and elegant curves inspired by the Maison’s Putman ring.

The surprise: If you are lucky enough to find a small white porcelain medal inside your cake, you will win a Vertigo calling card tray. You can collect your prize from a selection of Christofle boutiques until April 30th, 2019.

Available at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, Ground Floor.

Chez Meunier

The cake: The recipe for the Galeries Lafayette Gourmet cake was devised like a brownie, combining the delicacy of almonds with the sweetness of chocolate.

The game: Find a Galeries Lafayette lucky charm and win a gift card worth 1000€.

Available at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, Ground Floor.

The cakes: The most Parisian of Japanese bakers has designed an array of cakes that expertly blend both French and Japanese flavours: almonds, sesame and matcha. There’s something for everyone’s taste.

Available at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, Ground Floor.

Yann Couvreur

Available at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, Ground Floor.

Jean-Paul Hévin

The recipe: Designed to resemble a windmill, this cake made from almond-flavoured puff pastry and dark chocolate combined with an almond cream and Grand Cru Venezuela chocolate chips will really set your taste buds tingling.

Available exclusively at Galeries Lafayette Gourmet, ground floor.

The cakes: To celebrate Epiphany, Angelina’s pastry chefs have created two masterpieces as elegant as they are delicious: an almond king’s cake, with a traditional frangipane, and a chocolate & chestnut king’s cake, bringing together two of the bakery’s flagship products for even sweeter results…
