A Legendary Club
In 1975, Moustache discovered the Bar Patio at the brand-new Le Méridien Étoile hotel, which had opened in 1972. At the time, it was only animated by a single pianist, but he saw the opportunity to invite his jazz musician friends: Maxim Saury, Teddy Martin, Géo Daly, Marcel Zanini… There were no big names yet, but the atmosphere was already festive.

Gradually, Moustache began bringing in American soloists, pairing them with French musicians. In the early 1980s, the first established groups started performing at the Bar Patio, drawn by the venue and its unique vibe: Dizzy Gillespie, Cab Calloway, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Claude Bolling, B.B. King, and the Count’s Men… By night, the Bar Patio increasingly took on the feel of a proper club, complete with a dedicated stage and professional sound and lighting setup.
In 1984, Moustache convinced Lionel Hampton, who had fallen under the spell of the venue, to become its honorary patron and lend his name to what would become the Jazz Club Lionel Hampton.
In the years that followed, some of the greatest names in jazz and blues took the stage at the club: Oscar Peterson, Fats Domino, Monty Alexander, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, the Count Basie Orchestra, Rhoda Scott, Diana Krall, Mighty Mo Rodgers, Big James, Ike Turner… The audience also included familiar faces: Jean Lefebvre, Guy Marchand, Claude Brasseur, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Carlos, Eddy Mitchell, Chantal Nobel, Eddie Barclay…
In 2009, the Jazz Club was renamed Jazz Club Étoile.
Perfect for live music lovers, Jazz Club Étoile combines concerts, cocktails, and dinner in an intimate and vibrant atmosphere.
