Designed by architects Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines, this art center is a cultural destination in its own right, offering the public a breathtaking journey into the history of art and modern thought.
A historic alliance in the service of creation
The history of Galeries Lafayette is inseparable from a deep commitment to creation. For 130 years, they have enabled a “unique encounter between creation and commerce for all“. This humanistic vision, inherited from founder Théophile Bader, makes the department store a true cultural venue where art dialogues with architecture.
The relationship with Centre Pompidou-Metz was spectacularly established from the very first steps of the institution. In 1978, just nine months after the inauguration of Centre Pompidou, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann affirmed their role as a “museum outside the walls.” During the event “La France va vous étonner”, the store hosted major works from the École de Paris on loan from Centre Pompidou. Over the decades, this partnership has been structured around other innovative projects aiming to break down the barriers of contemporary art.
The exhibition Dimanche sans fin
To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Centre Pompidou-Metz invites star artist Maurizio Cattelan to cast his relentless gaze on the collections presented.
This exhibition features rare works rarely displayed in the Centre Pompidou collection, highlighting the movements of contemporary art in their plurality. More than 400 masterpieces from Centre Pompidou dialogue with 40 iconic pieces by Cattelan. Built like a primer, the journey explores the social, political, and aesthetic dimensions of our modern mythologies.
To be discovered in Metz from May 8, 2025, to January 25, 2027.
POUR TOUJOURS at Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann

Today, the resonance between the two institutions continues in the heart of Paris. Following the exhibition Dimanche sans fin, Maurizio Cattelan and the Centre Pompidou collection presented at Centre Pompidou-Metz, Galeries Lafayette Haussmann invite Maurizio Cattelan and Chiara Parisi to reinvent this dialogue under the title POUR TOUJOURS.
