Galeries Lafayette sells products and services for individuals purchasing one or more products for their personal needs and which are not for resale. Galeries Lafayette reserves the right to refuse any sale should they suspect any purchases of falling outside of this scope.
The purpose of these general terms and conditions of sale is to define the rights and obligations of Galeries Lafayette and its clients within the context of in-store sales.
Any purchase made in store implies full acceptance of these general terms and conditions of sale, which are available at the Concierge and Customer Service points in store and on galerieslafayette.com, under the “Find my store” tab.
- Price and payment
The price applicable to products available to be taken away immediately by the client is indicated in the store in Euros, inclusive of all taxes, and is confirmed at the checkout. The store is not obliged to match the prices displayed in other stores or online.
Payments are to be made up front in accordance with the payment methods and currencies accepted and displayed at the checkout. Payments in foreign currencies will incur charges at the expense of the client.
In accordance with Decree No. 2015-741 of 24th June 2015, cash payments are limited to 1000 Euros for French residents and 10,000 Euros for non-residents. These restrictions also apply to payments made by gift card.
The client may be requested to show official and valid identity documents at the time of payment, if necessary.
- Promotions and cumulation rules
Unless otherwise stated, promotions and other offers cannot be combined with each other and are understood as “excluding red dots”. Some promotions may be reserved for certain clients only, the conditions of eligibility for these offers are available in store.
- In-store services
The terms and conditions of the services are available in store.
Unless otherwise stated, products entrusted as part of its services must be removed by the customer no later than 2 months after the date of depositing the property, otherwise Galeries Lafayette will no longer be responsible for its safekeeping.
The tax refund service may be accessed in accordance with the terms and conditions displayed in store by those clients who are eligible in accordance with French and Community legal provisions.
- Product exchanges and refunds
Unless otherwise stated, unused products may be returned to store in their original packaging up to 30 days after purchase and upon presentation of the relevant till receipt or invoice.
After verification and, where necessary, inspection of the product, the product will be reimbursed via the same payment method.
Please note that if payment was made using a gift certificate or gift voucher (multi-brand or mono-brand), reimbursement will be in the form of a Galeries Lafayette gift card.
A product may have been tried on but not worn. Any product that is incomplete, spoiled, used, damaged, worn, dirty or consumed, even in part, cannot be refunded or exchanged.
Products that are refunded or exchanged must be able to be resold.
Certain items are not eligible for this service, and include, but are not limited to:
– products that have been ordered specially, altered or customised;
– underwear (without their protective strips), shoes without their box, bedding that has been removed from its packaging, audio or video recording equipment or unsealed software, earrings, etc.
- Guarantees
Legal Guarantee :
All products sold in store have a legal guarantee of conformity.
Galeries Lafayette is responsible for the lack of conformity of products sold in store in accordance with the terms of article L. 217-4 et seq. of the consumer code and the code on hidden defects in sold items under the terms provided in articles 1641 et seq. of the French Civil Code.
Where a client wishes to implement the legal guarantee of conformity:
- They have 24 months from delivery of the product to act.
- They may choose between having the goods repaired or replaced, subject to certain costs as provided for in article L. 217-9 of the Consumer Code.
- They do not have to provide proof of the lack of conformity during the 24 months following delivery of the goods.
The legal guarantee of conformity applies regardless of any commercial guarantee that may be granted. It is recalled that the client may decide to implement the guarantee against defects in the sold item within the meaning of article 1641 of the French Civil Code; in this case, the consumer can choose between cancellation of the sale or a price reduction.
Commercial Guarantees:
In addition to the legal guarantee, certain products may benefit from a commercial guarantee offered by their manufacturer that Galeries Lafayette is not party to. The scope and duration of this guarantee varies depending on the manufacturer. You may view the terms of these guarantees on the manufacturer’s website and/or in the product manual.
To take advantage of the commercial guarantee, the client should approach the brands that issued the commercial guarantee.
Galeries Lafayette cannot be held responsible in the event that the manufacturer refuses to enforce its commercial guarantee.
- Spare parts
Unless expressly indicated on the product, Galeries Lafayette has no knowledge of the availability of any spare parts.
- Recovery of electrical products – 1 for 1
Pursuant to the provisions of article R. 543-180 of the Environmental Code, if a client purchases a household electrical or electronic product, Galeries Lafayette will freely take back the used household electrical or electronic product that the client is getting rid of, within the limit of the quantity and type of equipment sold.
Galeries Lafayette may refuse to take back any electrical or electronic equipment that, after contamination, poses a risk to the health and safety of its personnel.
In this case, Galeries Lafayette may suggest an alternative solution.
- Complaints and mediation service
Any complaints should be sent to the store’s customer services department at the address below, which will ensure the processing and monitoring of the case.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Consumer Code regarding the amicable settlement of disputes, Galeries Lafayette subscribes to the e-commerce mediation service of the FEVAD (French federation of e-commerce and distance selling) whose contact details are: Médiation FEVAD, 60 Rue la Boëtie, 75008 Paris, France.
After the clients have first contacted the Galeries Lafayette customer services department in writing, the mediation service may then be contacted for any consumer dispute that has not been resolved. - Personal data and cold calling
Personal data may be collected during store visits and may be used by Galeries Lafayette for statistical purposes to enable them to know their customers better and improve the quality of service.
If the client has agreed, the personal data collected is also processed by the company 44 Galeries Lafayette, for the purposes of sending commercial offers and / or improving and personalising the monitoring of customer relations. Only 44 Galeries Lafayette and companies of the Galeries Lafayette Group and/or its partners, if the client has agreed, will receive the information provided.
Some information may be securely transferred outside of the European Union (USA) to approved service providers, primarily for the purposes of performing customer surveys.
