Falling for Fall with Carin Olsson

With Autumn right around the corner, Galeries Lafayette has teamed up with Paris in Four Months’ Carin Olsson to help you get the best out of transitioning seasons. Fresh trends, hot right now brands, things to do in Paris… the Swedish content creator shares why she’s falling for Fall.

We meet Paris in Four Months’ Carin Olsson on the Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann rooftop, an idyllic setting to drink in the awakening city below. A gentle chill hangs in the air, yellowed leaves litter the sidewalks, and bundled up Parisians begin filling the streets… it’s official. Fall has arrived in Paris. While some locals desperately cling to memories of warmer days and summer holidays, Olsson has already begun looking to the autumnal days ahead.

“Even though I have a thing for summer, Fall can be incredibly beautiful and charming in Paris… I love watching the trees turn yellow and orange, seeing the city transition into autumn. The best is if we manage to get a warm fall so that I can enjoy those days outside for as long as it’s possible! I love those autumn days with a bit of sun and a clear blue skies,” explains Olsson, effortlessly chic dressed in a stunning Cécile Bahnsen dress and Kassl trench. Picked from the first floor of the Haussmann store, the combination is perfect for the dropping temperatures and the few rays of welcome Autumn sun peeking through the clouds.

“I do find it tricky dressing for Fall in Paris at times,” she continues. “One minute it’s too hot, the next it’s too cold. Now I understand why Parisians have such a special attachment to their scarves! It truly comes in handy when you don’t know what the weather will throw at you. I always try to layer in a smart way so that I can put on or take off layers to match the ever-changing Parisian weather.”

Galeries Lafayette has also begun changing it’s fashion offering to accommodate the transitioning season ahead. Indeed, the Parisian department store prides itself on the capacity to make style accessible to all, all year round. One of the best examples of this is the “Dans l’oeil des Galeries” fashion selection. Located on the 1st and 2nd floors of the famous domed store, this corner highlights some of the hottest brands and the coolest trends, specially curated for its international clientele.

Headed back in store to peruse the new collections herself, Olsson slips into a cozier, yet ever still stylish, ensemble: a black denim skirt, an oversize pistachio knit from JW Anderson, accessories from Alighieri and Yuzefi… items hand-selected by the Swedish content creator from the 1st floor fashion selection.

So how does the ever chic Olsson stay sharp in the wake of autumn? “If the weather allows for it, I like to wear my summer dresses and throw on a jacket to stay warm. It’s the perfect in-between seasons outfit. I also like to use skirts that I’ve been wearing all summer – denim, satin, whatever you have – paired with a chunky knit and boots. It’s a good compromise for those who are not ready to let go of summer just yet!” explains Olsson. It’s also a great way to contribute to a more sustainable retail experience, we’re reminded as a plaid Marine Serre skirt, made from upcycled fabric, catches her eye. It’s just one of the many items highlighted within the context of Galeries Lafayette’s sustainability movement, Go For Good.

“A good coat is also a must-have in my wardrobe – not a winter coat but something for that in-between season. A trench is always a safe pick, but you can also go for a denim jacket or an oversized blazer.” These trends are already popping up everywhere in the City of Lights and have been most recently featured in Galeries Lafayette’s “Fashioning Change” campaign, which focuses on renewal and sustainability.

“Another must-have is a great knit that you can cosy up in during those chillier days. It makes any item feel a bit more autumn appropriate. As I mentioned, you can wear it with a slip dress, skirt or a pair of jeans, so it really comes in handy! And, of course, accessories to add that special touch to any outfit,” adds Olsson, making her way over to the Galeries Lafayette’s “Labo Maro” (or handbag laboratory) featuring some current fashionista favorites: By Far, D’Estrée, Atelier Manu…

“Throughout the years, I’ve definitely learned the importance of investing in some good wardrobe staples that you can wear multiple seasons and years. I would look to Jacquemus for the ultimate autumn dress (those cosy knitted dresses are such a clever idea), Ganni and their playful ways to use patterns and colours, JW Anderson which always manages to offer pieces that you can wear for a longer time, and Cécile Bahnsen or Simone Rocha for any romantic dress dreams I might have – even for Fall.” All brands featured in the Galeries Lafayette Fall selection.

At the end of our tour, Olsson settles in for a quick coffee at Angelina, sharing her idea of the best things to do in Paris in Fall. “I adore having cosy coffee dates walking through the Parisian parks together with my camera or with friends, or having a glass of red wine in a French wine bar in the evening. This sounds like such a cliché but it’s most definitely true. If it’s too chilly for a whole day outside I also recommend museum hopping in the middle of the day when there’s maybe a bit less of a crowd.”

A Galeries Lafayette approved program, as long as a stop by the store to grab your layered essentials is included as well.
